The Diamond Jubilee Gala Dinner was held on Sunday 12th May in The Cavan Crystal Hotel in Cavan. The room was beautifully decorated for the occasion and everyone enjoyed the sumptuous five course dinner. The beautiful celebration cake was made by Federation President and artistically decorated by Ada Vance. The lovely new Federation "Pull Up" Banner was on display and there was a Power Point Presentation "Review of the Past Year" in ICA. Honoured Guests were Liz Wall National President and Kathleen Richey former Federation President and Anglo Celt ' Person of the Decade'. Leila gave a warm "Cead Mile Failte" to all present and spoke about the formation of Cavan Federation in 1953. She also gave a special welcome to Mary Poyntz- Drung Guild, a founder member of Kileshandra Guild and Kathleen Richey and outlined some of Kathleen's achievements over the years. Leila stated that one of the highlights for her has been the opening of a new guild in Maudabawn. Three members from Maudabawn were in attendance. Leila thanked her hardworking committee for their help and support. Introducing National President Liz Wall, Leila said she was delighted to once again welcome Liz on her fourth visit to Cavan. Presentations of Crystal Bowls were made to Liz Wall and Kathleen Richey. Liz presented Leila with a pot plant and Anna Rose McCormack also presented Leila with flowers. Kathleen Richey said she was honoured and delighted to be invited and recalled some events during her time as president. Liz Wall thanked Leila for the Invitation and said she was encouraged to see the federation growing in membership.
Two Scholarships were drawn for An Grianan - these were won by Sheelin and Bruskey Guilds. Raffle was held with lots of prizes.
Music and entertainment was provided by Mel Doherty and Dessie Ronan. Party Pieces were provided by Anna Rose McCormack; Francis McCormack; Concepta McGovern; Rose Fitzsimons; Finoula Sweeney and Margaret Luby.
At the conclusion Leila thanked all those who attended, everyone who was involved in organising the event and Mel and Dessie for the entertainment.
